Distribution
Distribution maintenance programs were developed and implemented in major centres including Port Moresby and Wewak. In Port Moresby, a line was constructed to connect the Eda Ranu Mt Eriama water treatment plant to the electricity grid.
The Wewak distribution network was also upgraded with the construction of an addition feeder line to the town centre and a line to connect the South Seas Tuna processing plant to the network.
In Rabaul, aerial bundled cable distribution lines were installed to improve reliability and safety. The harsh environment as a result of the volcanic activity severely affected the original standard conductors and insulators.
PNG Power continued a program to install auto reclosers and sectionalisers on the major distribution feeder lines to improve reliability and to minimise outages. The reclosers automatically try to re-energise the lines after a fault has tripped circuit breakers. The sectionalisers split a long feeder into sections to allow part of the feeder to be brought back into service before repair of the section with a fault. The devices are installed at strategic locations on the distribution and remotely monitored and controlled by the system control centre.
