Employment Development
At PNG Power, we are dedicated to the on-going development of our employees. Enhancing our organisational experience at all levels ensures that, as a business, we maintain up to date skill qualifications while growing highly competent people through an extensive range of development solutions.
PNG Power Ltd has its own Registered Training College known as PNG Power Ltd Training College. Over the years the college has produced most of the technical staff for the company and also contributed to the workforce of Papua New Guinea.
In-House Training Program
While our in-house mechanical and electrical trades courses were outsourced to Lae Technical College, the University of Technology, University of PNG, Divine Word University, Institute of Business Studies, International Training Institute, IEA Tafe College, Institute of Engineers PNG , Certified Professional Accountants (PNG) and PNG Human Resource Institute provided a range of courses in engineering, business management, accounting and human resources management. Between 2005 and 2007, 1079 employees have undertaken various courses at these institutions. Where specialised skills were not available in-country, PNG Power took advantage of donour funded engineering courses overseas.
Our in-house Trainers focused mainly on apprenticeship, distribution lines, power operations, live low voltage line, high voltage operations, safety and licence coaching programs.

Apprenticeship & Graduate Programs
PNG Power and its predecessor Elcom have for over 30 years, had extensive on-the-job graduate and apprenticeship skills development programs in technical trades, practical engineering and business management. The essence of these schemes was for young Papua New Guineans workforce to take the organization forward.
The improve financial position and human resource management processes, had resulted in the increased levels of new apprentice and graduate appointment, inclusive of lines and power operators, to 138 between 2005 and 2008 and is deemed to increase in the next few years.
