PNG Power remains committed to goal set by Blacklock

PNG Power remains committed to carrying forward the goal set by outgoing Acting Managing Director’s for the company become safe, reliable and financially viable.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Douglas Mageo expressed gratitude towards Carolyn Blacklock for her time in serving the company for the last eighteen (18) months.

“The company had the great privilege of working alongside a committed and transparent individual that has set a clear strategic direction for the future. Her decision to leave PNG Power has saddened many staff but PNG Power remains focused in ensuring the goal to becoming safe, reliable, and financially viable is achieved,” said Mr. Mageo.

Mr. Mageo stressed that company’s goal can only be achieved through team work and called on all staff to continue to work together in delivering electricity services for the people of Papua New Guinea.

“More effort is needed to achieve our ultimate goal in returning to much cleaner, cheaper and reliable energy sources such as hydro while also transitioning through to natural gas. There is no doubt these energy sources will contribute in bringing the tariff down and improving our reliability figures up to 100 per cent. This is a plan that has already seen work commence and we will remain committed to ensuring that it works,” said Mr. Mageo.

Mr. Mageo thanked the governments of Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the United States of America and other stakeholders for their continued support. “We are very grateful to our partners and companies such as Deloittes, who are ensuring financial compliance within the organization and the team from Partners in Performance (PIP), for ensuring our Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are set and performance is aligned to targets,” he stressed. The PNG Power Board and Management also expressed similar sentiments to Mr Mageo and added that the use of necessary tools and expertise currently on hand will help the company prosper. They further thanked and urged all employees to continue to remain committed to their jobs.
