Primary Objectives:
Reporting to the Team Leader Substation Design, this position is responsible to undertake complete design of lifecycle of high voltage substations, ensuring their safety, efficiency, and compliance with relevant standards. Your expertise will be crucial in developing the infrastructure that underpins PPL’s power supply network involving large consumers, and considerations for high rise expansions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering
- Tertiary Project Management qualification or equivalent experience
- The incumbent must be a registered member with the Institute of Engineers of Papua New Guinea
Minimum Experience:
The position holder must be able to demonstrate a successful track record in a Substation Design Engineering role within the
power industry. Ideally the successful applicant for this position will have experience working on Distribution Designs in major
urban areas within PNG. Specifically, the position holder should have significant experience and be able to demonstrate
success in the following areas:
- Perform detailed calculations and studies, such as load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, insulation coordination, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) assessments.
- Develop comprehensive technical specifications for high voltage equipment (transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators, etc.).
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, including single-line diagrams, general arrangements, protection schematics, and control wiring diagrams, utilizing relevant CAD software ([e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation]).
- Ensure designs adhere to international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE) and relevant PNG regulations and codes.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, protection and control engineers, civil/structural engineers, and other stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
- Provide technical support during the procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of substation projects.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to gather data and oversee construction activities.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in high voltage substation technology and design practices.
- Contribute to the development of internal design standards and procedures.
