PROJECT ENGINEER – POM 

Requirements

Primary Objectives:
Reporting to the Team Leader Reliability Improvement– Energy Utility Performance & Reliability Improvement Project (EUPRIP), the Project Engineer will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of Reliability Improvement projects in Port Moresby under the EUPRIP. This role primarily focuses on contract management & supervision of the upgrading the medium voltage (MV) distribution network. he Project Engineer will support the team leader in budgeting, scoping, contract management, and overseeing the construction and commissioning of MV switchgear installations across the Port Moresby network. 

The role is integral to construction supervision, design verification, quality control, contract management, and commissioning of works, ensuring that project implementation aligns with engineering standards. The Project Engineer must enforce and uphold the highest safety standards and ensure all fieldwork is executed in accordance with PPL’s Safe Work Procedures and best work practices.
The role involves close coordination with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to achieve timely delivery of works, with a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and technical performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Electrical Power Option)
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Tradesman Lineman with a combined 10+ years’ experience in power transmission (desirably substation) and distribution 
  • Must be registered with the Institute of Engineers PNG (IEPNG) 

Minimum Experience:
The position holder must be able to demonstrate a successful track record in a Reliability Improvement Engineer role within the 
Power industry. Specifically, the position holder should have significant experience and be able to demonstrate success in the 
following areas:

  • Minimum 5 years in Medium Voltage Network construction
  • In-depth knowledge of MV network and operations
  • Strong understanding of PNG Power’s Safe Work Procedures and safety risk mitigation strategies
  • Project and contract management competency
  • Excellent communication skills for community engagement, stakeholder coordination, and dispute resolution
  • Effective leadership with strong conflict resolution and decision-making abilities
  • Commercially aware, innovative, and results-driven
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and a collaborative team player

Critical Skills & Attribute Requirements 
In-depth knowledge of MV Network and  operations
Strong understanding of PNG Power’s Safe Work Procedures and safety risk mitigation strategies
Project and contract management competency
Excellent communication skills for community engagement, stakeholder coordination, and dispute resolution
Effective leadership with strong conflict resolution and decision-making abilities
